Workforce Development

The BronxWorks Workforce Development Department prepares people that are unemployed, looking for their first job, or need help improving their careers. We have targeted programs for young adults, NYCHA residents, non-custodial fathers, HPD Section 8 voucher holders, older adults, and community residents. We provide comprehensive job-readiness instruction, sector-based trainings, job referrals with trusted employment partners, one-on-one financial counseling, financial workshops, and wraparound services, which include access to benefits and educational opportunities.

Our comprehensive set of workforce development services is bundled in several programs to meet a variety of community member needs.

I need a job. Where do I start?

We have weekly information sessions both virtual and in-person. You can also contact the office at 718.993.8880 x0 for more information.

Do you have bilingual staff?

Yes. Many of our staff speak multiple languages.

How can you help me find a job?

BronxWorks Workforce Development offers a variety of services to help community residents. Our workforce development staff can help you with employment needs, including the following:

  • Find new or better employment opportunities
  • Explore and choose a career
  • Education and career advancement and development opportunities
  • Exclusive access to our BronxWorks computer lab to conduct job searches, create and check emails, etc.
  • Create or update a resume
  • Improve your interviewing skills and learn new interviewing techniques
  • Schedule job interviews with our employer partners
  • Attend employer networking events (virtual and in-person)
  • Access to our career closet for interview attire
  • Post-employment services
  • ESOL classes
What educational and training programs do you provide?

BronxWorks provides training and access to training for multiple industries to get you started in a new career:

  • Security guard training
  • OSHA Construction training
  • CDL training
  • Home Health Aide, Personal Care Aide, Medical Assistant training (English and Spanish)
  • Pre-HSE/GED & HSE/GED prep classes and referrals to GED testing
  • College access services

Many other trainings and educational opportunities might also be available to you depending on your career interests and goals.

 

Can you provide financial help?

Aside from our various workforce development services, we also can teach you and provide you with the skills needed to be financially independent:

  • Financial counseling services
  • Financial literacy training on topics such as banking, budgeting, reducing debt, and establishing or improving credit scores
  • Help filling out and submitting benefits applications electronically
  • Referrals for social supports
  • Assistance and referrals for work supports
  • Referrals for child support services including workshops
  • Free income tax preparation

Help determining eligibility for government and private benefits like:

  • Accessing refunds and credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits
  • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
  • Health Insurance and Health benefits programs
What documents do I need to bring to a workforce development session?
  • Photo ID
  • Social security card
  • Proof of residency and address (such as a copy of your lease, Con Ed bill, or telephone bill)

In 2021, our Workforce Development department provided work readiness and financial literacy to over 1,450 people.
