A Code Blue Weather Emergency notice is issued when the temperature drops to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or less between 4pm and 8am, including National Weather Service calculations for wind chill values. No one who is homeless and seeking shelter in New York City during a Code Blue will be denied. Should you see a homeless individual out in the cold, please call 311 and an outreach team will be dispatched to offer assistance.
The Building Better Futures Gala honored all BronxWorks staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to support the communities of the Bronx.
The highlight of the evening came toward the end of The 2021 Building Better Futures Gala when Executive Director, Eileen Torres, and Assistant Executive Directors, Scott Auwarter and John Weed, honored and thanked the BronxWorks staff for their incredible efforts over this past year and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. BronxWorks staff were also recognized earlier this month as the Fox 5 Hero of the Day.
“It would be impossible for us to name all of the incredible work that our staff have done and will continue to do as the effects of the pandemic persist,” Eileen Torres said in her speech, “Nevertheless, we want to say to our staff, thank you.”
The evening was capped off by a rendition of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” sung by a chorus of BronxWorks staff. The chorus included: Amanda Perez from Admin; Doug Harrison and Yisiel Familia from the Fiscal Department; Cassie Desalines from Homeless Services; Denese Mars, Roger Montalban, Francisco Estevez, Jaime Hiciano, Mario Chavez, Dashae Green, and Nalda Garcia from the Classic Cornerstone Community Center; Joanna Smith from Children & Youth; Solomon Smart and Y. Felicia Thomas from Senior Services; Dominique Jackson from Workforce Development; Alex Soto from the Training Department; and Yonnel Olivo from IT.
