BronxWorks manages six Older Adult Centers (OACs) and other older adults services offices that are designed to meet older adults’ social, recreational, and health needs.
BronxWorks has a case manager who helps victims of elder abuse in cases such as: physical, emotional, verbal, and financial abuse.
A BronxWorks social worker provides group and individual counseling as well as mental health screenings. Group counseling sessions cover topics like depression, isolation, anxiety, stress release, and bereavement.
BronxWorks joins United Neighborhood Houses and our partners in changing what it means to age by bridging the gap between generations. Both youth and older adults take part in program planning and organizing.
BronxWorks has a technician who makes minor home repairs and performs security checks to make sure seniors stay safe within their homes.
This program helps low-income Bronx residents aged 60 years or older who have active cases against them in Bronx Housing Court avoid eviction.
Our dedicated housing specialist helps seniors who are at risk of homelessness.
Services for Older Adults FAQs
You may qualify and apply for food stamps, Medicaid, HEAP, SCRIE, DRIE, LIFELINE, SAFE LINK, Access-a-Ride, EPIC, and the Medicare Savings Program. We also have a free tax assistance program that operates during the tax preparation season (January through April of each year).
The BronxWorks’ Senior Housing Assistance Program case manager can assist you with filling out housing applications, provide tenant landlord advocacy, and help you apply for SCRIE or DRIE. The case manager can also give you information on your housing rights and provide you with a listing of senior housing complexes. However, BronxWorks does not rent apartments.
Yes, our Minor Repair Program coordinates with technicians who can come to your home and change the battery on your smoke detector.
This is abuse. A case manager with our Elder Abuse Program will make a home visit to discuss a plan of action with you. If you do not have money for food, the case manager will bring you a food bag from our pantry.
BronxWorks can help you by providing a social worker who can screen for depression, provide one-on-one counseling, and enroll you in a bereavement group.
