#JustPay Update – Major Investment In the Nonprofit Human Services Sector

This month, Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Council announced a major investment in the nonprofit human services sector: over the next three years, the City budget will include a 9.27% wage increase for City-contracted human services workers!

This $740 million investment will impact tens of thousands of workers across New York City, including most BronxWorks frontline and support staff. This new commitment is a major win for all of us and the neighbors we serve.

This investment includes:

  • A 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for FY25 – on top of the $170 million already allocated for the Workforce Enhancement Initiative
  • A 3% COLA for FY26
  • A 3% COLA for FY27

The Human Services Council, a network of human service organizations like BronxWorks that aims to support its member organizations in addressing their concerns of public policy, economic trends, and the regulatory environment, launched the #JustPay Campaign in 2021. The campaign called on the City to finally make a significant – and long overdue – investment in human services workers by committing to salary increases that keep up with skyrocketing everyday costs. This investment is a big step toward undoing decades of underfunding for human services.
