When temperatures drop below freezing, the New York City Department of Homeless Services calls a Code Blue. Should you see anyone at risk, especially a homeless individual, please call 311. The BronxWorks Homeless Outreach Team will be dispatched to offer assistance.

BronxWorks food pantries operate on a client-choice model, allowing individuals to select the items they prefer. Distribution is based on family size to ensure appropriate support. We are appointment-based, and all clients must call the hotline (646.596.1316) on the designated call day to schedule an appointment. Appointments are issued on a first-call, first-served basis. Please note that some sites have limited availability, so we strongly recommend calling early, as appointments fill up quickly. Click here for a full list of BronxWorks pantry sites.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, or supported the 2025 BronxWorks 5K Monster Mash Hunger Dash! We had a wonderful turnout, including some animal friends! We have raised over $15,000 for BronxWorks programs fighting food insecurity in the Bronx, including food pantries, farm stands, nutritional education and other services.

5K Fundraisers can earn great BronxWorks prizes for reaching fundraising targets! Fundraising is open through October 25! To support a fundraiser, click here.

Did You Know?

The Bronx has the highest rate of food insecurity in the state.

According to a New York State Department of Health report, 24.9 % of adults in New York State reported experiencing food insecurity. In the Bronx, the rate was much higher, with 39% of Bronx residents reporting having limited or uncertain access to adequate food due to limited economic resources. Adults who experience food insecurity are also more likely to develop chronic diseases.

“The BronxWorks pantry is important because I can feed my family. I retired right at the beginning of the pandemic and this was, and still is, a lifeline to me and this community.” -Elizabeth A., BronxWorks Participant

“I can’t work, so given the pantry is free, it’s a big help. We get fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, chicken or fish…it’s such a great selection!” -Mary A., BronxWorks Participant

Access to fresh and healthy food is a critical issue affecting the overall health and wellbeing of the borough. One of the pillars of the BronxWorks mission is to feed our Bronx neighbors to build a stronger community. BronxWorks has several programs that address food insecurity in the borough, including food pantries, farm stands, nutrition education, and more.

Your support of the 5K helps our efforts to combat food insecurity!
