When temperatures climb closer to 100°F, life on the streets can go from unbearable to deadly. When the predicted heat index reaches 95°F or higher, the City of New York declares a “CODE RED”. During a Code Red, the BronxWorks Homeless Outreach Team will be working hard to help our most vulnerable neighbors get off the streets and into shelter.
Designated cooling centers are open during a CODE RED all around New York City and the Bronx. If you are living without air conditioning and need a place to cool down contact 311 or click here to find a cooling center near you. Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and sick. Cooling centers are open and available to the public. More info
Thank you to our #TeamBronxWorks riders who participated in the 2026 TD Five Boro Bike Tour! Together, our riders have raised over $7,500 for BronxWorks children’s programming. A special thank you to Bronx Pro Group, who provided eight riders on our tour team! You can continue to support our Bike Tour fundraising here.
BronxWorks was proud to once again participate as a charity partner in the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, America’s largest cycling event, on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Tens of thousands of people rode through over 40 miles of car-free streets in all five boroughs in New York City.
Riders for #TeamBronxWorks each raised over $750 for children’s programs at our shelters for homeless families. The stress of homelessness affects children in a profound way, impacting their physical and mental health, school performance, and overall development. The recreational and educational activities in our programs expand their world beyond the daily challenges of being homeless and can counteract some of the negative impacts of homelessness.
