Next month, Daniella Garramone will reach 10 years of working in the BronxWorks Homebase program. Daniella started her career at the organization in October of 2016 as a Case Management Supervisor, overseeing six case managers in Homebase, an eviction prevention program. Subsequently she was promoted to Assistant Program Director, and in 2021 Daniella became a Program Director for Homebase. Alongside her colleague Juandy Paredes, Daniella co-leads this vital program with more than 70 staff providing eviction prevention services to over 3,600 clients annually who are at risk of losing housing.
In her position, Daniella has many responsibilities, including tracking and sharing program data, communicating with city agencies and funders, managing staff, overseeing program quality assurance, and more. She is also involved in casework when needed, troubleshooting issues and addressing unique concerns. Daniella values her experiences in various roles within the program, which has allowed her to better understand the work of those she now manages. Her years of experience have also contributed to her vast knowledge of city and state agencies, benefits, expectations, and opportunities for those facing housing instability.
We see the clients through the whole process, from the beginning when they come to us with a crisis, to the end where they’re happy in their home.
Daniella grew up in Rockland County, New York, only a short distance outside the five boroughs. She moved to New York City to attend John Jay College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology. She worked flexible jobs throughout college and put herself through graduate school, earning her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Hunter College. Very soon after completing her Master’s, Daniella applied to BronxWorks and started at Homebase.
When she joined the program, rent prices in New York City were much less expensive than what we see today. Daniella has witnessed the increasing rent burden felt by Bronx residents, as the borough with the highest rate of evictions. Daniella and her colleagues strive to be responsive to these enormous challenges and develop creative, effective solutions for each client.
“We’re doing something with a purpose, serving the community. It can be a difficult process, which is why it’s important to celebrate the positives, both at work and outside of work.”
In her free time, Daniella often does fun outdoor activities with her children and especially enjoys the nice summer and fall weather.
