When the predicted heat index reaches 95°F or higher, the City of New York declares a “CODE RED”. During a Code Red, the BronxWorks Homeless Outreach Team will be working hard to help our most vulnerable neighbors get off the streets and into shelter. Designated cooling centers are open during a CODE RED. If you are living without air conditioning and need a place to cool down contact 311 or click here.

Access to fresh and healthy food is a critical issue affecting the overall health and wellbeing of the borough. One of the pillars of the BronxWorks mission is to feed our Bronx neighbors to build a stronger community. BronxWorks has several programs that address food insecurity in the borough, including food pantries, farm stands, and nutrition education.
Maribel C., BronxWorks Pantry Participant
“My family gets food from the pantry. You select what you want to take home, and I love that. A year ago, I got into an accident, and the doctor said that I was unable to work for at least a year. If you don’t work, you won’t have enough food, especially if you have kids. You can’t tell the kids we don’t have food today or we just have this kind of food every day. I understand that I have to give my kids everything they need to grow safe and healthy.”
Nancy P., BronxWorks Farm Stand Participant
“I’ve learned how the fresh produce offered at the farm stand can have health benefits for me, how it can help my heart health. I’ve learned a lot about the benefits of natural food like the fruits and vegetables here. It is really hard to get it from the stores, and what is there is usually not local to the New York area or organic. Having this weekly farm stand right down the street from me allows me to have a healthier lifestyle.”
Your support of the BronxWorks 5K makes a real difference for Bronx families like Maribel’s and Nancy’s by helping expand access to nutritious food and stronger community support!
