Work is about to begin to make urgently needed repairs and renovations to our Main Community Center, 1130 Grand Concourse.  Over the years, the facility has been heavily used by the community and is now showing the wear and tear that comes with age.  We are going to replace the boiler and elevator, repair the roof, and renovate the swimming pool, which has been sprouting leaks and will get its own pool heater.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. (r.) tours our Main Community Center with BronxWorks Interim Executive Director Eileen Torres (c.) and Tim Sarraille, Director of Operations (l.).

It is estimated that the whole project will cost some $2.1 million, of which we already have $1.3 million, or 63 percent of the total needed, thanks to generous funding through the Office of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Bronx Councilwoman Helen Diane Foster, with additional support from the Russell Grinnell Memorial Trust and individuals who donated at the annual event in June. We hope to get much of the roof work done before cold weather sets in.  In the meantime, the Community Center remains open.

We could not launch this critical project without the generous support of our representatives, but we do need to raise additional funds to complete all the necessary work.  If you would like to learn more about the renovations and how you can help, or take a tour of the facility to see what is happening, please call the development office at (646) 393-4007.
