On February 12, the BronxWorks Center for Achieving Future Education (CAFÉ) participated in the Fifth Annual K-12 Education Expo sponsored by LinkEducation.  The fair was held at the Kimmel Center of New York University.

LinkEducation provides information to parents, educators, students, school leaders, policy makers, and others that will help them choose the best possible education for their children.  The expo features information tables, display booths, workshops, and networking opportunities.  The 2011 program included sessions on engineering for children, behavior management, and financial literacy, and audience participation in fun yoga, theater, and dance activities.

CAFÉ provides free assistance to students and parents with the high school or college selection and application process.  Specific services include assessing a youngster’s interests, determining the high schools or colleges that matches those interests, reviewing the schools’ admissions requirements, compiling documentation to accompanying the admissions application, and the identification of financial aid.

A special feature of CAFÉ is its History Makers component, which is done in collaboration with Fordham University.  This accords high school youth an opportunity to spend four to six weeks in the summer on the Rose Hill campus of Fordham while attending classes and working on a community service project.  This past autumn, History Makers was expanded to offer year-around activities on the campus.
