BronxWorks is pleased to feature our partnership with Children's Hope India!

Children’s Hope India (CHI) provides invaluable support to programs in the Agency’s Children and Youth Department. Since 2017, CHI has supported lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) at two BronxWorks after-school programs, Bronxchester and Third Avenue. BronxWorks hired a dedicated STEAM Coordinator who develops and teaches lessons for the programs. Students enjoy hands-on activities on a variety of topics. One particularly exciting activity included making models of lungs using plastic bottles and balloons.

Students have been inspired by their STEAM lessons.

“Science in school can be boring because we don’t do cool experiments. We watch the teacher do experiments and we only write reviews. Now at after-school, WE get to do cool STEAM experiments. For example, we made paper-mache rockets. We are learning interesting facts that we test ourselves,” said Aisha, a fifth-grader.

Students will display projects at a STEAM showcase at the end of the school year, and lessons will continue throughout the summer. Support from CHI helps BronxWorks staff to purchase supplies for exciting projects on an ongoing basis.

"Children's Hope India is thrilled to support BronxWorks through our funding of a STEAM enhancement to the after-school program at two of its locations. We are pleased to help introduce science, technology, engineering, art and math concepts to children living in under-resourced communities. Our partnership has truly made a difference, and we are grateful to BronxWorks for the opportunity," said Dina Pahlajani, President, CHI.

Thank you, CHI!
